I think readers are starting to associate the 99 cents and 2.99 ebooks with self-publishing. I figure at $4.95, it's more of a "real book" price, and sure, it's nice getting $3+ per book. I haven't seen a dip in sales, but my first book is free, so that's still out there as a way for folks to try my series without risk. Naturally people who read a Book 1 and decide they like the characters aren't going to waffle much over a $1 difference. Higher prices might be a tougher sell if you haven't already made a fan out of a person. You might have good luck doing Shadow Cat at free/99 cents and then the following books at $5 when you have them out. Of course, I'm sure you've already thought of that!
