I'm also getting the impression low prices seem less real to readers these days. And $4.95 seems vary reasonable in my mind for an eBook. In fact, it's my cutoff point as a reader.

It would be interesting to see if the entire series receives more notice with another book. Shadow Cat being kicked out as a lonely child only has mediocre sales regardless of the price point ($0.99, 2.99, or 3.99). :) The only price I haven't tried with Shadow Cat is free. To be honest, I'm quite reluctant to give it away, considering my time investment on the work.

Side note: after all the fuss on your blog about authors "tricking" readers into purchasing books by creating a publishing company, I finally registered a name myself and found out what it entails to own a company. Indie or not, I'm a publisher and have the right to own the status. haha Now I have to work on an official looking website.

I recently decided to raise my novels from $3.99 to $4.95 (and the stand-alone that was at $2.99 I bumped up to $3.95), less out of greed (or business sense :P) and more because I wanted to get out of that indie ghetto, laugh. I think readers are starting to associate the 99 cents and 2.99 ebooks with self-publishing. I figure at $4.95, it's more of a "real book" price, and sure, it's nice getting $3+ per book.

I haven't seen a dip in sales, but my first book is free, so that's still out there as a way for folks to try my series without risk. Naturally people who read a Book 1 and decide they like the characters aren't going to waffle much over a $1 difference. Higher prices might be a tougher sell if you haven't already made a fan out of a person. You might have good luck doing Shadow Cat at free/99 cents and then the following books at $5 when you have them out. Of course, I'm sure you've already thought of that!

I haven't bumped up my novellas yet, but it would be tempting to get that 70% royalty. I am planning to do a three-story omnibus at that rate when I have the third Flash Gold story out.

Anyway, just rambling. Good luck with your pricing experiments!

Snooze is a good option when it comes to some certain maters, but overall this stuff helps many people in few cases. Hope you may get what I meant. Lol.

This story sounds interesting and strange as well. But I have no stories to share about the “Snooze” I wonder how you still can remember all these stuff. Mind blowing though.

I found a cool forum: NaNo Rebels - http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/304

I'm going to do NaNo this year but not start anything new, just finish stuff I've started. I've been thinking: It'd be nice to write a bunch of short stories during NaNo. Not sure how many ideas I can come up with, but it'd be cool anyway to try. :)

I'm still deciding whether I'll do it this year or not. I probably will be starting something new, but I think it'll be the next Flash Gold story rather than a full length novel, and that won't reach 50k. Also, I'll be traveling and unable to get online much in November, so I'm not sure I want to dicker around with updating word counts there and such. It'll be tough just to get blog posts up and check in on Twitter (wouldn't want to miss that lol).

Reena,

You need to check out my friend, SE Day's website and radio show, The Legally Steal Show--it's exactly what you're talking about with your article here and he's actually a HUGE credit union and financial consumer advocate who's trying to spread the word about how to take a stand and protecting the interests of the middle and working class people who work hard for their dollars and watch every penny. Would you mind if I forwarded him your piece? His website is www.legallysteal.com and blogs are on www.blogtalkradio.com/legallystealshow. He's also on Facebook and Twitter.
Anyway, I think he'd love to read your article, which is why I wanted your permission to share it. Let me know if you need more info or have questions.

Sincerely,
Rachel Kwee
