Book Reviews & Policy
My upcoming reads list has grown to humongous proportions. Okay, not that big, but enough to keep me busy throughout this year and part of next. So, I’m closed to reviews until November 2011. If your book isn’t listed on my wishlist, please assume the answer is no. That is all.
I’ve been receiving review requests lately, so figure I need to put this out. Though I review books, I am not a review blogger. I’m just a writer who loves to read.
When/If I ever open to reviews again
The books I choose are based on whatever looks interesting at the time. Once in a blue moon, I will agree to review a work. Typically the books I do accept are already on my to read list, and I’ve just lucked out the author wants me to read it also.
My conditional terms. Cruise my reading list.
- If you see your book on the list and want to offer me a complementary copy, I can be persuaded to read your work sooner than later. Right now, my desperate-must-get-to list is about 18 weeks long. With my one book a week reading rate and my ever growing list, I don’t see myself possibly getting through all the books on my list. Also, keep in mind: though I mention a complementary copy, some of the books on my reading list I already own but just haven’t gotten around to reading. Sometimes, just knowing someone is looking forward to a review is encouragement enough to bump a work toward the top.
- If I’ve reviewed one of your works in the past and mentioned looking forward to your next book, ASK!!!!
I’m probably secretly hoping you’ll offer me a copy of your next release. - It never hurts to ask even if you fall outside the above two criterion. The worse that could happen is I say, “thanks, but I don’t think this read is for me.”
Preferred Genres
My reading interests are a bit all over the place. To see what I mean, have at my post on why I started writing paranormal romance. If you’ve checked out my 2011 reviews, you’ll see I’ve grown out of paranormal romances and am venturing into other genres. So! What I might accept (maybe, just maybe), if you fit into category #3.
Fiction
- Amish Love Stories/Romances *I’ve only read one so far, so the verdict is still out on this genre
- Amish story with a male protagonist
- YA or New Adult Dystopia/Futuristic
Non-Fiction
- Spiritual *must have a focus which promotes positive life changes, preferable Christian
That’s it. I read genres in phases, and I’m on the above kicks. If your book isn’t in one of the above three genres, please hold off sending a request. Perhaps my interests will change next week.
Acceptable Formats
- eBooks (Smashwords coupons, Kindle Gifts, mobi files)
- Print books
- Audio books (I don’t have much experience with this format, but I’m willing to give it a try)
What to Include in Your Request
- Title and Author
- A link to a sample (please do not include the sample in the email unless requested)
- Goodreads link
- Any other pertinent information you’d like to add
Send your review request to reenajacobs@reenajacobs.com or use the contact page on my website. Please include “Review Request: Title of Book” in the Subject.
My Reviews Include:
- Cover Art
- Blurb
- Buy links: Usually Barnes & Nobles, Smashwords, and/or The Book Depository (I’m affiliated with those three online stores and am financially motivated to look up affiliate links. However, my affiliation has no influence on the actual review. Authors are welcome to leave additional buy links in the comments or email me links they’d like me add.)
- The Review, which is my highly subjective opinion
I post the review link on Goodreads and sometimes include a summary review. If requested by the author/publisher/agent, I will post the review in up to 2 other places.
When to Expect Reviews
I’ve tried to set a routine for myself. I’ve reserved Mondays for book reviews. Hopefully, I keep up with my goal of reading one book a week between writing so I’ll have something for my lovely readers.
Special Features
I am open to blog tours, giveaways, book spotlights, and other events. When contacting me about special features, please consider the weekly schedule below in your request:

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Disclosure
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released a bunch of rules October 5, 2009. These rules state that product reviewers on blogs must disclose whether they received review products for free or received monetary payment for such reviews.
For the records, the books I review on this site, except where noted, are purchased by me unless otherwise noted. Seriously, my pocketbook hurts sometimes. I never accept payment in exchange for a review or mention. The reviews on the site are my own opinion. Receiving a copy for free does not influence my opinions.
